One of the greatest teams in Sewanee history, the 1972-73 team won the College Athletic Conference and ended the season with the longest winning streak in school history at 14 games. Under coach Rudy Davalos and assistant Mac Petty, the Tigers finished with a record of 23-4. The 23 wins still stands as the most victories by a men’s basketball team in a single-season. Additionally, two of the Tigers’ four losses came at Tulane and Mississippi State. Players on the team were Eddie Greene, Jack Lefler, Bill Kosick, Kenny Bohrman, Eddie Krenson, Harry Hoffman, Tom Piggott, John Petrie, Peter Lemonds, Doug Fifner, Norm Marable, Rick Jones, Rhea Bowden, Bill Skaggs, John Wills, and Ben Rogers. Additionally, Bill Perkinson served as the team manager.
