Morgan's walk-off leads No. 4/6 Emory past Sewanee, 6-5

Box Score

ATLANTA (Feb. 11, 2017) – A walk-off double from Wilson Morgan led No. 4/6 Emory to a 6-5 win over the Sewanee baseball team, Saturday, at Chappell Park.

Morgan doubled in the bottom of the ninth, which plated NJ Kim. That was all set up by a huge top of the eighth inning from Sewanee.

Jackson Cooper ripped a triple to right field to open the inning. Jared Demkowicz then scored Cooper with a single to center. After back-to-back singles from Trey Akins and Beau Allen, Josh Roberts walked scoring Demkowicz. Ryan Poole then plated Akins with an RBI SAC fly to center.

Sewanee originally led 1-0 after Cooper singled in Riley Brandvold in the top of the third. The Tigers then extended their advantage an inning later when Tony Dykes ripped a hard fly ball which scored Allen.

Emory finally got on the board in the bottom of the inning when Bubby Terp homered to left. The Eagles finally took their first lead after scoring three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth. That set up the late drama.

Led by the top of the lineup, Sewanee finished with nine hits. Cooper finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored while Allen added a 3-for-4 performance. On the mound, starter Drew Mancuso allowed five runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings. Reliever Tyler Minkkinen took the loss despite allowing only one run. He also struck out two in 3.2 innings.

Kyle Monk was tagged with the win despite allowing three runs in 3.0 innings for Emory.

Sewanee and Emory return to action with a doubleheader, Sunday.
