Sewanee spilts Saturday doubleheader against Rhodes

SEWANEE, Tenn. – John Bagwell delivered a walk-off RBI single to left field to score Charlie Teel as Sewanee split a Saturday doubleheader with Rhodes, earning a 7-6 win in game two after falling 11-1 in the opener.

The Tigers move to 13-7-1 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while Rhodes stands at 16-5 (4-1 SAA).
Bagwell led the way in game two, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Max Kilburn finished 3-for-4 with three hits. Aidan Petrocco added three RBIs on the day.

In game one, Sewanee struck first in the bottom of the fourth as Bagwell drove in Teel, but Rhodes responded with a decisive sixth inning to take control in an 11-1 decision.

The Lynx capitalized on five Sewanee errors in the sixth, plating seven runs to turn the game in their favor.
Rhodes added four more runs in the ninth on four hits to extend the lead and secure the win.

John Bagwell's walk-off single capped a back-and-forth contest as Sewanee earned a 7-6 victory in the nightcap.

In the second game, Rhodes struck first, taking advantage of a passed ball to plate a run in the opening inning.

Sewanee answered immediately in the bottom half. Spencer Yu singled up the middle and Teel was hit by a pitch before Tyler Pinson loaded the bases with a single. Bagwell delivered an RBI single to tie the game, and Ethan Williams followed with a groundout that brought Teel home to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers extended their advantage in the second inning when Petrocco launched a two-run home run to make it 4-1.

Rhodes battled back to tie the game in the fifth, stringing together hits with two outs. Eli Potter limited further damage, recording a strikeout to end the inning.

Sewanee regained the lead in the sixth as Kilburn doubled down the left field line and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt before Petrocco drove him in with an RBI single.

In the seventh, Rhodes loaded the bases, but Ryan Moll induced a key double play and a flyout to hold the Lynx to just one run.

Jack Merrill was dominant in relief, earning the win, tossing a scoreless eighth inning and retiring the side in order in the ninth to set up the Tigers' final at-bat.

In the bottom of the ninth, Teel doubled to left field with one out and Pinson was intentionally walked.

Bagwell then lined a single to left, scoring Teel and sealing the 7-6 walk-off win for Sewanee.

Sewanee faces Rhodes in the final game of the series on Sunday at Noon.
