SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 14, 2014) – Behind another strong offensive performance, the Sewanee field hockey team earned a 3-2 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) win over rival Hendrix, Sunday, at Puett Field.
With the victory, the Tigers are now 2-3 this season while Hendrix dropped to 1-6.
In the first half, Sewanee came out strong. The Tigers used their attack to take a 2-1 lead by halftime. Early goals by Sarah Barry and Carrie Anderson helped the Tigers jump out in front in the first 25 minutes.
Hendrix eventually pulled to within one point, when Megan Fires scored off an assist from Rayhl Reger.

Out of the locker room, Sewanee added another goal when Anderson blasted in a shot from teammate Kat Mulligan.
Hendrix would add one late score when Reger tapped in a loose ball off of a cross from Brooke Whitaker.
Overall, Sewanee finished with a 25-8 shot advantage while Hendrix led in corners, 10-7.
Individually, Anderson finished with two goals on five shots. Additionally, Allegra Massey-Elim and Barry both finished with a team-high six shots.
On defense, Zuie Billings, Margaret Knudsen, Catherine Estes, and goalkeeper Gabrielle Fignar limited Hendrix's attack to only four shots on goal.
That allowed Sewanee to keep possession in the midfield and counterattack.
The Tigers, winners of two straight matches, continue SAA play against Centre, Saturday. That match is scheduled to begin at noon at Puett Field.
