ATLANTA, Ga. 3/6/09 – Emory's Steve Bralver had three hits, including a three-run home run, and drove in seven runs as the Emory Eagles defeated the Sewanee Tigers 12-3 in Division 3 baseball action today in Atlanta.
Emory jumped to an early 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning.
In the top of the second, the Tigers wasted a chance for a big inning as they loaded the bases with no outs, but failed to push a run across the plate. Following singles by Franklin Pogue (Nashville, Tenn., Father Ryan) and Rascoe Dean (Nashville, Tenn., Montgomery Bell Academy), Trey Axe (Austin, Tex., St. Andrew's) singled through the left side loading the bases. Bryant Denison (Baton Rouge, La., University) then flied to left, but Pogue was doubled off third. Connor Liston (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Episcopal) popped out to the shortstop for the third out ending the inning.
A disastrous bottom of the third sealed the Tigers' fate as Emory plated five runs to take a 6-0 lead in the game. Bralver's homer was the big blow in the inning. Sewanee helped Emory's cause as Tiger pitchers issued four walks. In addition, two errors in the inning produced two unearned runs.

A two-out, three-run rally in the top of the seventh inning by the Tigers broke up Emory's shutout bid. Singles by Liston and Joe Reilly (Milton, Ga., Mt. Pisgah), followed by a walk to Taylor Irwin (Brentwood, Tenn., Battle Ground Academy), loaded the bases. Taylor Barrett (Murfreesboro, Tenn., Siegel) greeted Emory relief pitcher Angelo Prisco with a double down the left field line driving in Liston and Reilly. Irwin scored on a fielding error by the left fielder as the Tigers cut the lead to 7-3.
The Eagles responded with a five-run outburst in the bottom of the seventh to take a 12-3 lead and put the game on ice.
The hits were even at 11 apiece for the game. Sewanee was led at the plate by Pogue and Barrett with three hits each. Reilly collected two hits for the game.
Sewanee stranded nine runners and committed four errors on the day.
Matt Rykman picked up the win for Emory. Starting pitcher Chris Mauro (Washington, D.C., St. Alban's) was charged with the loss for the Tigers.
Sewanee drops to 1-4 on the season and will return to action on Sunday at home as they face the University of Dubuque at Montgomery Field. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at noon.
