After falling behind 0-4 to start the game, Sewanee would rally with a 4-0 run of its own to take a 6-5 lead before Denison rallied with a 3-0 run to go up 8-6. Sewanee scored with 35.6 seconds remaining in the first half for the 7-8 half time score.
The two teams would trade goals to start the second half, with Denison scoring quickly on a Lulu Carter free position goal at 27:58 remaining.
It wouldn't be until 21:13 left that Steffi Renninger (Darnestown, Md., Sidwell Friends) would score Sewanee's first goal of the second half, closing the gap to 8-9.
Denison would score three of the next four goals to hold a 12-9 advantage with 14:07 left on the clock. However, Sewanee would score 5 of the next 6 goals, including 3 by freshmen Megan Welton (Germantown, TN, Houston) pulling Sewanee back in the game.
After Sewanee sophomore Allison Bland (Houston, TX, St. John's) tied the game on a free position goal with 8:27 remaining, Meg Welton would give Sewanee just their second lead of the game on a goal just 24 seconds later off a Steffi Renninger assist. Denison scored their final goal with 1:07 remaining, after a 13 minute drought, to close the game to the final margin, but Sewanee was able to hold on for the 14-13 victory.
