Herrington, Price lead Tigers past Centre in SAA Semifinals, 17-6

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sally Herrington recorded six points, and Marlin Price added five as Sewanee's women's lacrosse team defeated Centre, 17-6, in the SAA Semifinals to advance to the conference championship game for the second consecutive season.

Herrington finished with four goals and two assists, adding two draw controls and two ground balls. Price tallied three goals and two assists with a draw control and a ground ball. Katherine Clark scored four goals on five shots, while Ellen Lewis added three goals and an assist to go along with three draw controls.

Sally Whitehead and Sofia Bean each collected three ground balls, with Bean also adding three draw controls and Whitehead scoring once. Haley Price recorded four draw controls, two ground balls, and a caused turnover. Mallory Magee contributed two ground balls and a caused turnover, while Izzo Palmer added a caused turnover.

Centre opened the scoring, but Lewis controlled the ensuing draw, and Alexa Berg responded just 12 seconds later to spark a five-goal run for the Tigers. Helen Newcomb picked up a ground ball following a Centre turnover, leading to a goal from Price, who then assisted Whitehead just over a minute later. Clark and Herrington followed with back-to-back free-position goals to close the first period.

The Colonels scored the first two goals of the second quarter to cut into the lead, but Lewis found Price to push the advantage back to three. Centre answered with a man-up goal before Lewis converted on a free-position opportunity. The Colonels trimmed the deficit to two with 1:59 remaining in the half, sending Sewanee into the break with a 7-5 lead.

Sewanee took control in the third quarter, with six unanswered goals. Herrington assisted Price just 58 seconds into the period before adding a free-position goal of her own. The Tigers then struck twice in a 36-second span, as Herrington connected with Lewis on a man-up goal and Lewis followed with another score after Haley Price secured the draw control.

Molly Starkey added a goal with 1:51 remaining in the third off an assist from Price, and Clark capped the quarter with a man-up goal in the final 25 seconds.
Centre scored to open the fourth quarter, but Sewanee closed the game with four straight goals. Herrington scored twice in succession, and Clark added two more—one on a free-position attempt and another off an assist from Erika Bolcar—to seal the 17-6 victory.

The Tigers will face Rhodes in the SAA Championship on Saturday at Noon CT.
