Price named Offensive Player of the Year, Tigers place eight on All-Conference Teams

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Marlin Price was named Southern Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, as Sewanee's women's lacrosse team placed eight student-athletes on the All-Conference teams, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

Joining Price on the First Team were Ella Townsend, Izzo Palmer, Sally Herrington, Ellen Lewis, and Sally Whitehead. Helen Newcomb and Kennedy Harcourt earned Second Team All-SAA honors, while Clara Early represented the Tigers on the SAA All-Sportsmanship Team.

Price leads the SAA in points per game at 5.38, totaling 46 goals and 40 assists on the season. She ranks second in the conference in assists and third in goals per game, while adding two game-winning goals. The senior has also recorded 29 draw controls, 28 ground balls, and 18 caused turnovers.

Townsend, a junior defender, anchored Sewanee's defense and leads the SAA in caused turnovers per game (3.19), with the next closest defender averaging 1.80. She also ranks second in the conference with 58 ground balls and has added three goals and two assists.

Palmer earned her first All-Conference honor at the At-Large position, finishing with 23 caused turnovers and 16 ground balls. The senior defender played a key role in limiting opponents to 151 goals and 291 shots this season.

Herrington collected her third All-Conference selection after totaling 33 goals and six assists in just 11 games, averaging three goals per game. She scored 18 goals in conference play and added 14 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. 

Lewis, a freshman attacker, earned First Team honors after recording 36 goals and 27 assists, along with 64 draw controls, 19 ground balls, and 10 caused turnovers. She ranks second on the team with 63 points in 16 games.

Whitehead, a senior midfielder, earned her second All-Conference selection and first First-Team nod. She finished the season with 20 goals and three assists, while adding 33 ground balls, 20 caused turnovers, and 19 draw controls.

Newcomb, a sophomore defender, picked up her first All-Conference honor on the Second-Team. She totaled 12 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers, contributing to a defensive unit that limited opponents to 151 goals and 291 shots.

Harcourt, a sophomore midfielder, earned her second All-Conference selection at the at-large position. She recorded 11 goals and seven assists, along with 30 ground balls, 19 caused turnovers, and 21 draw controls.

Sewanee enters the SAA Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will face Centre in the semifinals on Thursday in Memphis, Tenn., at 4 p.m.
