CONWAY, Ark. -- After falling behind 2-1 in the first half, Sewanee tied the SCAC field hockey game with Hendrix in Conway Saturday, sending the contest into overtime. The Warriors prevailed on a 74th minute goal off of a penalty corner to get the 4-3 OT win.
Scoring started in the first with a
Caroline Carlin (Gladwyne, Penn., Country Day) goal that took Sewanee out to its only lead of the game.Hendrix answered six minutes later and then again just before the half to get the one-goal edge going into the break.
In the second half, seniors
Lynn Hancock (Paris, Ky., Foxcroft) and
Claiborne Buckingham (Richmond, Va., Collegiate) scored back-to-back goals to even up the score in the 43rd and 46th minutes. Abby Coleman scored her second goal of the day in the fifth minute of overtime, though and Hendrix took home the SCAC win.
Hendrix oushot Sewanee 11-10 and took eight penalty corners compared to six for the Tigers.
Sewanee is 4-3 this season and is 1-2 so far in the SCAC. Hendrix is 2-5 so far and picked up its first league win today. Sewanee will face Rhodes tomorrow in Memphis.
