Sewanee Moves to 3-1 With Hendrix Win

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Sewanee got out to a 2-1 first half lead over visiting Hendrix today in SCAC Field Hockey action and then increased its lead to 3-1 to secure its first conference win.

Carly Grimm (South Salem, N.Y., John Jay)  scored Sewanee's first goal in just the fourth minute of the game, while Caitlin McNaughton (Middleburg, Va., Foxcroft)  scored Sewanee's other first half goal. Grimm put the final ball in the net for Sewanee in the 58th minute of the game to secure the 3-1 tally. Savannah Saunders scored Hendrix's goal in the first period.

Sewanee took 16 penalty corners compared to only five for the visiting warriors. Sewanee also outshot Hendrix 27-10 on the day. Clarkie Crawford (Louisville, Ky., Collegiate)  had four saves in goal for Sewanee, while Alyssa Havens logged nine for the Warriors.

Sewanee moves to 3-1 with the win and is 1-1 in the SCAC. Hendrix is 1-2 and is 0-1 in the league. The Tigers will face Transylvania and Wittenberg on the road next weekend.
