SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's
Turner Chiles earned SAA Men's Golf Player of the Week accolades after tying the school single-round record and taking low medalist honors at the Jekyll Island Collegiate, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
The Houston, Texas, native tied the school single-round record with a bogey-free eight-under par 64 in the first round, posting six birdies plus an eagle. He followed that with two rounds of four-under par 68 to win low medalist honors.
Chiles played 33 holes before making a bogey, his only bogey of the tournament. He double bogeyed his 50th hole of the event, No. 14 in the final round, and trailed by two shots before making birdie on three of the final four holes, winning by two strokes over Washington and Lee's Jonathan McEwen. It marks his first victory and seventh career Top-10 finish in 16 career events at Sewanee.
