SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's
Grayson White and
Susie Whitsett were named Tennessee Sports Writers Association men's and women's soccer players of the week, respectively, as announced by the organization Wednesday.
White netted a pair of goals in a 4-0 victory over 18th-ranked Johns Hopkins. The Columbia, S.C., native scored in the 69th minute on an assist from
Wells Durham after a turnover deep in the Sewanee offensive end, giving the Tigers a 2-0 edge.
Just 36 seconds later, Johns Hopkins was called for a foul in the box and White converted the penalty kick. Sewanee played to a 0-0 draw in its season opener earlier in the weekend against Montclair State.
Whitsett scored one goal and recorded two assists in a pair of Sewanee victories.
In a 3-1 win against Spalding University, the Homewood, Ala., native assisted on goals by
Mia Ramirez (game-winner) in the 83rd minute and
Kylene Monaghan in the 88th minute. Then in Sunday's triumph over Farmingdale State, she collected a goal in the 75th minute, firing into an empty net after beating the goalie to a thru-ball from Josie Anderson.
