SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee men's soccer earned the No. 3 seed and will face Centre College in the quarterfinals of the SAA Championships this Thursday at 6 p.m. CT in Georgetown, Texas, as announced Sunday by the conference office.
The Tigers (12-3-4, 3-2-2 SAA) and Colonels (2-8-7, 1-4-2) played to a scoreless draw at Sewanee on Saturday, with Centre goalkeeper Martin Cortez saving a penalty kick and a Colonels defender clearing a ball away from the goal line on a header by
Edward Kennedy, both in the first half.
Sewanee's two league losses this season were against Trinity University and Southwestern University, the top two teams in the conference, and the Tigers played to draws versus Centre and Rhodes College while defeating Millsaps College, Oglethorpe University and Berry College.
Sewanee owns a 6-12 mark all-time in the SAA Championships and has won a quarterfinal match in each of the last four seasons before falling in the semifinals. The Tigers and Colonels have played four times in the conference tournament since the league's inception in 2012, with Centre holding a 3-1 edge.
The winner of Thursday's match will play host Southwestern at 6 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals. More information about the conference tournament may be found at
