SEWANEE, Tenn. – Centre struck early and added a late insurance goal as Sewanee fell to the Colonels, 2-0, in the quarterfinals of the SAA Men's Soccer Tournament on Thursday night.

Despite a strong offensive effort that saw the Tigers outshoot Centre, 16-10, including an 8-7 advantage on goal, Sewanee was unable to find the back of the net. Stokes McConnell, Edward Kennedy, and Grayson White each tallied two shots on target, while Centre goalkeeper Martin Cortez turned away eight attempts to keep the shutout intact.

Centre opened the scoring in the 10th minute after a bouncing ball slipped through the Sewanee back line, leading to a one-on-one finish inside the near post. The Colonels nearly doubled their lead late in the first half on another breakaway chance, but the shot sailed wide.

McConnell generated Sewanee's first quality look in the opening minutes when his attempt from the penalty area was collected by Cortez. The Tigers' best chance came midway through the second half, as Noah Bjorkman volleyed a ball just wide of the post.

With Sewanee pushing numbers forward in the final minute, Centre capitalized on a counter to add a final goal.

Nathan Vanhoeve recorded five saves in the match for the Tigers.

Sewanee concludes an outstanding season at 12-4-4 overall and 3-2-2 in SAA play. The Tigers posted three losses to nationally ranked top-15 opponents and opened the year with a 4-0 win over then-No. 18 Johns Hopkins.
