Sewanee Equestrian IHSA team clinches the Region

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Emma Sameth and Nell Grady placed second and third in the High Point Rider of the Year awards as the Tigers competed in the Individual Regional Championships on Sunday in Sewanee, Tenn. 

The Tigers clinched their first-place spot in the region on Saturday on day two of the Sewanee Spring Show. They beat the second-place team, Maryville College by 15 points and qualified for the IHSA Zone Championships. 

Sameth was only one point behind the first-place winner of the High Point Rider of the Year, the top rider who is honored in both the open flay and the open fences region. Sameth and Grady's performances qualified them for Individual Zones in both flat and fences, held on April 6th in Savannah, Ga. 

Emma Sameth came in 2nd in both the open fences and open flat. 

In the Intermediate division, Nell Grady took home first in the fences and flat division. Kelly Baumgart also took third in the flat division. 

In the novice division, London Eller placed fifth and Shelton Griffith placed sixth.  

Sewanee will compete in the IHSA Zone 5 Region 1 Championships on April 6 in Savannah, Ga.
