ATLANTA - Announced on Monday by the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), the University of the South women's lacrosse team was represented on the 2023 All-SAA Teams. Voted on by the head coaches of the league, seven Tigers were listed.
Marlin Price and
Winnie Pajcic were both listed on the First Team.
Emma Burns,
Sally Herrington and
Brooke Sigmon were named Second Team members, while
Lizzie Chamberlin and
Jessica Morgan Southworth were Honorable Mentions.
Since the awards were nominated and voted on prior to the SAA Tournament, statistics provided in this release will defer to regular season numbers.
Price, a freshman from Carrolton, Va., set the new University of the South and SAA record for draw controls in a season. Entering the postseason tied for the conference record of 144, Price shattered the conference record during Sewanee's opening round win versus Birmingham-Southern in the SAA Tournament.
Starting in all 17 regular season contests, Price scored 23 goals and added 11 assists with a .460 shooting percentage. On defense, she added 26 caused turnovers and 39 ground balls.
Pajcic, a sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., earned her second straight All-SAA nod after collecting Second Team honors a year ago. On defense, she posted 33 caused turnovers and 38 ground balls.
Burns, a sophomore from Libertyville, Ill., claimed her second consecutive All-SAA selection. One of the two top scorers for Sewanee this past season, Burns totaled 53 goals and added 18 assists. On April 1 versus Berry, Burns scored her 100th career goal.
Herrington, a freshman from Richmond, Va., finished the regular and postseason tied for seventh with teammate Burns for goals scored. Totaling 51 goals this season, she added 13 assists for 64 points. Splitting time between the attack zone and the midfield, she added 20 draw controls, 24 caused turnovers and 38 ground balls.
Sigmon, a sophomore from Apex, N.C., was named to the All-SAA Team for a second straight season. Posting a .611 shooting percentage on 54 shots, she tallied 33 goals and added 17 assists. Winning 48 draw controls, she added 25 caused turnovers and 37 ground balls.
Chamberlin, a senior from Amenia, N.Y., secured her second All-SAA honor in her career. She totaled 26 goals and 31 points during the 2023 regular season. Playing more on the attack for the Purple and White, she also attributed 10 caused turnovers and 21 ground balls.
Southworth, a senior from Charleston, S.C., recorded 14 forced turnovers and picked up 28 groundballs as she collected her first All-SAA listing of her career.
