NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) announced on Tuesday that sophomore pitcher
Matt Munn from the University of the South has been chosen as the TSWA Baseball Pitcher of the Week after his performance against Oglethorpe University on Friday, April 14.
One day after winning the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the Bellaire, Texas native was crucial in Sewanee's 2-1 victory over Oglethorpe that saw head coach
David Jenkins earn his 100th victory as head coach.
Tossing the final seven innings and allowing five hits and one run, he fanned a career-best 14 strikeouts.
He retired the side in order in the eighth and 10th innings and faced the minimum in the order, erasing a lead-off single with a doubleplay. The 14 strikeouts are the second-most in a single game at Sewanee since at least 2008.
Going up against schools from all three NCAA Divisions and NAIA in the State of Tennessee, this is the second TSWA weekly award the program has received this year. Munn joins
Jack Roode, who won the Player of the Week honor on Feb. 21.
The Tigers wrap up the regular season with a four-game home stand starting on Saturday versus Rhodes College.
