ATLANTA - The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) announced on Tuesday the postseason awards for women's lacrosse. NIne Tigers were selected to the All-SAA Team, while
Brooke Sigmon was honored as the league's Newcomer of the Year.
Sigmon, a freshman from Apex, N.C., also earned Second Team honors. Playing in all 19 games, she tallied 33 points on 20 goals and 13 assists and recorded a shooting percentage of .455.
Additionally, she forced 39 turnovers, good for third in the league in the category. She also collected 67 ground balls, second-best in the SAA.
Sigmon becomes the second Sewanee women's lacrosse athlete to earn Newcomer of the Year honors in the 10-plus year history of the SAA.
A total of nine Tigers were listed on the All-Conference Team.
Hattie Fogarty,
Hadley Meadows and
Jocelyn Riopel were honored on the First Team.
Emma Burns,
Brooke Sigmon,
Winnie Pajcic and
Molly Morris received Second Team accolades.
Lizzie Chamberlin and
Haley Lewis were selected as Honorable Mention.
The nine selections ties the second-most All-Conference members the team has achieved (2014-15-19-22).
Fogarty, a senior from Memphis, Tenn., earned her second All-SAA selection after earning Second Team laurels in 2019. She finished second in goals (71), points (104) and draw controls (98) in the league.
Meadows, a senior from Lynchburg, Va., scored 41 goals on the 2022 campaign, including nine free-position strikes. Additionally, she won 51 draw controls, good for ninth in the league.
Riopel, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., played in 18 games for Sewanee and forced 26 turnovers and scooped up 48 ground balls, which stands for ninth in the SAA in both categories.
Burns, a sophomore from Libertyville, Ill., finished the campaign with 86 points, fifth-most in the conference thanks to 51 goals and 35 assists.
Pajcic, a freshman from Jacksonville, Fla., caused 29 turnovers for the Sewanee defense playing in all 19 games in her first year with the program and added 30 ground balls.
Morris, a senior from Charlottesville, Va., recovered from an early-season injury and posted an 11-5 record between the pipes. Averaging 12.9 goals against, she also stopped 171 shots and recorded a save percentage of 47.4%, which is second-best in the SAA.
Chamberlin, a junior from Amenia, N.Y., tallied 33 points on 26 goals and seven assists. Along with 18 draws, she picked up 26 ground balls.
Lewis, a senior from West Palm Beach, Fla., finished second in the SAA in assists with 42 and finished her final season with the Purple Tigers with 49 points.
The Tigers finished the season with a 14-5 record and ended the season as a finalist in the 2022 SAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
