Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. - The University of the South's women's lacrosse program allowed just two goals in the final 42 minutes of the contest, as the Tigers downed the Pioneers of Transylvania University, 12-7, Friday afternoon from Puett Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Transy netted the first three goals of the contest to get out to a 3-0 lead in the first 7:09 of the contest, but Seawnee bounced back quickly to even the game with three straight scores in a five-minute span.
Casey Thomsen evened the score at three apiece with her unassisted strike with 15:09 left in the opening half.
-The Pioneers reclaimed the lead thanks to a man-up opportunity a little over a minute later. The visitors added another goal at the 12:41 mark to lead, 5-3.
-From there, the Sewanee offense came roaring back, as they scored the final three goals of the period to reclaim the lead, 6-5, at the break.
-The momentum stayed in favor of the Purple and White, as they scored three of the first four goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half to pull away.
-As Sewanee begins its 14th year of women's lacrosse, this is the eighth time in the history of the program that the Tigers have won the season opener, including seven of the last eight seasons.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-On the offensive side of the ball,
Hattie Fogarty and
Casey Thomsen each posted hat tricks on Friday. Fogarty led all scorers with four goals, while Thomsen netted three.
-
Jocelyn Riopel scooped up eight ground balls and forced four turnovers.
-
Logan Bulls also added four caused turnovers, while
Sarah Strand won four draw controls.
-
Amanda Jenkins (1-0) earned the save between the pipes, saving four shots in 30 first half minutes.
Caroline Roncalli saved two of four shots in the second half.
-In the second half, the Tigers allowed the Pioneers to six shots.
TRANSYLVANIA KEY STATISTICS
-Courtney Pontious netted a hat trick in the contest for the visitors, while Salem Carlow posted five draws and two goals.
-Abi Waldron played the full 60 minutes between the pipes and saved five shots.
