Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee women's lacrosse team began the 2020 season with an 18-7 win over the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest on Saturday from Puett Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-In the first 15 minutes of the contest, the Tigers scored nine of the first 11 goals of the game. Hattie Fogarty scored three straight for Sewanee, two via a free position early in the first half.
-Grace Zechman, who assisted on three of Sewanee's five goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, scored back-to-back goals in an 18-second span to lead 7-2 with 19:33 left in the half.
-After BSC scored three of the four goals to cut the deficit, 10-5, Sewanee scored three straight, one man-down, to lead 13-5 at the break.
-In the second half, the Tigers scored the first five goals of the half to seal the game.
-With the win, the Tigers have won their last three season-opening contests and six of the last seven.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Grace Zechman finished with nine points thanks to seven assists and two goals to lead the Sewanee offense.
-Preston Cooper and Lily Farriss each totaled four goals on six shots.
-Sarah Strand and Hattie Fogarty each added three goals in the victory. Fogarty also added five draws.
-Logan Bulls forced seven turnovers and scooped up six ground balls.
-Amanda Jenkins (1-0) stopped five shots in 37 minutes, while Caroline Roncalli posted four saves.
-As a team, the Tigers went 18-of-29 on clears, including a 10-of-14 mark in the first 30 minutes.
BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN KEY STATISTICS
-Jade Cox scored six of the team's seven goals for the Panthers. She also added seven ground balls and six caused turnovers.
-Alexus Howard (2-1) saved 12 shots in 34 minutes between the pipes.

The Tigers are back in action Sunday with an SAA game against Oglethorpe. Face off is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside Puett Field.
