DICKSON, Tenn. - The 25th ranked Sewanee men's golf team will share the 2017 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Men's Golf Preview crown with Oglethorpe, as the Tigers finished the 36-hole event with a 579 (+3) at the Greystone Golf Club on Sunday.

The tournament, scheduled to be a two-day, two round event, was pushed to one day on Sunday due to the impending Hurricane Irma.

The Tigers finished ahead of the Stormy Petrels, 293-294, in the first round, but Oglethorpe had a 285 score to the Tigers 286 in the final round.

Sewanee had four players finish in the top-10, with four competing with the team and the other as an individualist.

Gray Matthews, who finished second overall behind Huntingdon's Henry Gee, had a phenomenal final round. After firing a one-over, 73 in the opening round, the sophomore chipped in five birdies in the latter round to jump nine spots and finished two-under, 142.

Gee, who entered the final round at even par, 72, did not bogey a hole in the second round, and with Matthews bogeyed holes 13 and 18 became the deciding factor of the match as Gee finished three-under, 141.

Basil Boyd, who competed as an individualist, finished one stroke behind Boyd and in a tie for third place with a one-under, 143.

Tommy Oliver tallied a score of 145 (+1) and finished in a tie for sixth, while Nic Vandeventer had identical 73 scores to finish two-over, 146 to finish in a tie for eighth.

Nick Powell, who finished the opening round with a 76, jumped 13 spots to finish in a tie for 14th with a 71 thanks to six birdies in the final round. The Cowan, Tenn. native finished with a score of 147 (+3).

Other team results include Taylor Mottern (T-28th, 150) and Fernando Acosta-Rua (T-45th, 154).

Along with Boyd, four other Tigers competed as individualists, including Jackson Rogers (T-28th, 150), Charles Hargrove (37th, 152), Kase Diehl (T-52nd, 158) and Taylor Loeb (T-56th, 159).

Defending SAA Champion Rhodes finished fourth with a 583.

The Tigers return to the links next week for the Rhodes College Invitational at Tunica National in Tunica, Miss.
