Turner Chiles and freshman
Aidan Tudor each shot four-under 68 and Chiles moved into the individual lead for Sewanee men's golf Saturday after the second round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate in Jekyll Island, Ga.
Despite shooting five-under as a team, the Tigers dropped to second place in the team standings behind Huntingdon College and trail the Hawks by six strokes heading into Sunday's final round on the Pine Lakes Course at Jekyll Island Golf Club.
All of the Sewanee players started their rounds at No. 10, with Chiles netting seven pars and birdies on holes 12 and 18. On the front nine the Houston, Texas, native added birdies on one and five and finally made his first bogey of the tournament at No. 7. He came right back with a birdie at eight and finished at four-under 68 for a two-day total of 12-under par 132, one stroke in front of Methodist University's Beau Brewer.
Tudor followed a similar path in his round on Saturday with seven pars and birdies on holes 15 and 18 on the back nine. The New Market, Md., native recorded another birdie at No. 1 before a bogey on four. He finished the round with birdies on seven and nine for four-under 68 and a 36-hole score of 134, tied for fourth, two shots behind Chiles.
Senior
Elias Becker birdied No. 11 but made a double bogey on 13 and a bogey at No. 15. He ended the back nine with a birdie on 18 and added birdies on holes one and two. The Mexico City, Mexico, native bogeyed No. 4 but collected one more birdie for the day, at No. 5, shooting one-under 71 for a two-day total of 138, tied for 10
th.
Senior
Colin Edwards started slowly with three straight bogeys on holes 11-13 but came back with birdies on Nos. 15-16. The Brookhaven, Ga., native recorded bogeys on one and three and a double at No. 6 before ending the day with two pars and a birdie at No. 7 for a four-over 76 and a 36-hole score of 150, tied for 98
th.
Sophomore
Niel Phillips registered a double bogey at No. 10 and bogeys on 11 and 13. He birdied 17 but then bogeyed No. 18 to make the turn. The New Orleans, La., native birdied holes one and two and made five more pars but also two bogeys on the front for a four-over 76 as well and a two-day total of 151, tied for 108
th.
