Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 15, 2017) – In a game of runs and momentum, the Sewanee women's lacrosse team dropped its regular season finale 17-11 against Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Rhodes, Saturday, at Puett Field.

The Tigers wrap up their regular season with a 13-4 record.

Sewanee could not have gotten off to a better start. After winning the opening draw, Catherine Crigler scored for the Tigers. After another Sewanee win at midfield, Molly Elkins scored which pushed the Tiger lead to 2-0.

Rhodes got on the scoreboard when Ashley Doyle ripped a low shot in after she intercepted a pass on a clear attempt. Sewanee answered back when Grace Zechman scored off a pass from Kelly Thomsen.

After two straight goals by Rhodes, Brooke Winfield scored off a great pass from Anna Comer. Unfortunately, the Lynx responded with goals from Maggie Rippeto, Lindsay Gess, Kendall Cunningham, and Annika Hedlund.

Sewanee closed the half with back-to-back goals from Kit Sommi. Those goals came with less than a minute left before halftime.

Rhodes answered back to start the final 30 minutes. The Lynx pushed their advantage to five after three straight goals. Sewanee responded with another goal by Sommi. That sparked to a 3-0 Tiger run, which pulled Sewanee to within three, 11-8.

Unfortunately, Rhodes took control over the next seven minutes. The Lynx scored six goals during that stretch. Sewanee ended the game with late scores from Comer and Crigler.

Overall, Sewanee was undone by 31 turnovers and a 14-of-23 effort on clears. With that, Rhodes outshot Sewanee 39-27.

Brianna Young did play well for Sewanee with 10 saves. Crigler and Sommi led the offense with three goals each. In fact, Sommi finished with three goals, five shots, four groundballs, and five draws.

Doyle was the key for Rhodes with two goals, three groundballs, nine draws, and two caused turnovers.
