Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 13, 2017) – A balanced attack led the Sewanee women's lacrosse team to a 12-6 win Monday over Concordia at Puett Field.
The Tigers are now 6-1 this season. Sewanee will host Gordon on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
Battling cold temperatures and falling rain, Sewanee managed to score the first eight goals of the game. During the first half, Meredith Sackett scored three times while Kelly Thomsen added two goals. Additionally, Alden Woolford, Phoebe Stirm, and Anna Comer added one score.
With 1:34 before intermission, Lauren Paquin got Concordia on the board with an unassisted goal.
The Falcons then pulled to within six, when Christina Pattengale netted a free position goal. Sewanee answered back when Sackett scored again. That goal was followed by a goal from Mary Kate Myers and one from Kit Sommi.
After three late Concordia goals, Myers added one final score off a great pass from Molly Elkins.
Overall, both teams were hampered by the conditions. Sewanee and Concordia combined for 64 turnovers and 54 groundballs. Sewanee did show a vast improvement inside the circle with 13 draws.
Individually, Sackett finished with four goals, seven shots, one groundball, and three draws. Comer also played well with a goal, an assist, two groundballs, three draws, and a caused turnover.
On defense Bridget McConville, Farrell Guest, Elizabeth Orr, Woolford, Grace Fulton, Myers, and Sommi also had caused turnovers.
In goal, Brianna Young earned the win after she stopped two shots in the first half. Caitlin Henry led Concordia with two goals, three shots, a groundball, and three draws.
