Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 11, 2017) – After a close first half, the Sewanee women's lacrosse team pulled away from Albion for a 14-5 win on a cold Saturday afternoon at Puett Field.
The Tigers are now 5-1 this season. Sewanee opened with early goals from Bridget McConville and Preston Cooper.
Albion answered back when Cait Gaitley scored on a free position shot. After Brooke Winfield pushed the Tiger lead back to two, Albion tied the match after goals from Darcy Muns and Cassandra Reushlein.
Sewanee took control from there. The Tigers outscored the Britons 11-0 over the final 40 minutes. During that stretch, Meredith Sackett scored three times, Molly Elkins and Catherine Crigler scored twice, while Alden Woolford, McConville, Brooke Winfield, and Phoebe Stirm all found the back of the net.
Overall, Sewanee took advantage of 36 Albion turnovers and outshot the Brits 34-20.
On defense, starting goalkeeper Brianna Young finished with 10 saves while Anna Cromer and Kit Sommi finished with two caused turnovers. Additionally, Melanie Matthews, Winfield, Cromer, Woolford, Grace Fulton, Hannah Tompkins, Sommi, Annie Sherrill, and Young all finished with multiple groundballs.
Sewanee returns to action with a 6:00 p.m. match Monday against Concordia.
