Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. (Feb. 18, 2017) – A balanced attack led the Sewanee men's lacrosse team to a 10-6 win over Guilford, Saturday, at the Armfield Athletic Center.
Eight players scored for Sewanee while on defense, five Tigers combined to cause 12 turnovers. With that, Sewanee outscored Guilford 8-3 over the final three quarters.
After Guilford opened with a man-up goal from Zach Berkowitz, Sewanee answered back when Hayden Hunt ripped in a man-up shot in 7:45 remaining in the opening quarter.
Sewanee then took its first lead a minute and a half later when Thomas Lynde scored an unassisted goal. Guilford answered back with scores from Aswan Bland and Nick Damiano. That gave the Quakers a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Both teams continued to trade scores as play moved forward. Will Pratt and Brooks Young both scored early in the second quarter which tied the score at 4-4. After Berkowitz netted another goal for the Quakers, Sewanee ended the half on a 2-0 run.
From there, the Tigers' offense continued to roll. Tyler Calnan, Peter Brown, and Pat DiMento all scored in the second half.
Overall, Sewanee finished with a 32-26 advantage in shots. The Tigers also led in groundballs and faceoffs. On the draw, Cason Liles finished 5-of-11 while Brown was 1-for-1.
Overall, Hunt paced the offense with two goals and an assist. On defense, Jake Rubenstein played well with three caused turnovers and three groundballs. Goalkeeper Selby Austin finished with two caused turnovers, six groundballs, and seven saves.
Berkowitz led Guilford with three goals on five shots. Both Matt Bowen and Will Forrestal each finished with two caused turnovers.
Now 1-1 this season, Sewanee returns to action with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Transylvania next Saturday.
