Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (Sept. 3, 2016) – Three goals by junior Virginia Barry led the Sewanee field hockey team to a 4-3 win over Wooster, Saturday, on the campus of Wittenberg University.
The upperclassman attacker netted all three goals in the opening half, which led Sewanee to an early 4-2 advantage.
With only 34 seconds off the clock, Barry ripped in her first goal off an assist from newcomer Ceara Caffrey. The Tigers then took a 2-0 lead when Caffrey found the back of the cage only a minute and a half later.
As play continued, Sewanee's offense kept rolling. With 4:47 off the clock, Barry ripped home her second goal off an assist from Sarah Barry.
Wooster finally got on the board when Rachel Wetzel scored in the 12th minute.
Later in the opening 35 minutes, Barry added her final goal when she scored off a Carrie Anderson corner.
Wooster added two more goals, both by Maeven Barry, to close out the match.
Overall, Wooster outshot the Tigers 15-10. However, Sewanee goalkeepers Katya Waters and Caroline Brennan combined for seven saves and a .700 save percentage.
Sewanee quickly returns to action with a 2:30 p.m. (EST) match against Wittenberg, Sunday.
