Box Score WOOSTER, Ohio (March 6, 2016) – Despite a wild finish in which Sewanee forced overtime with two goals in a nine-second span, the visiting Tigers dropped a 12-11 decision in double overtime at Wooster, Sunday, on John P. Papp Field.
Down 10-7 with just under 16 minutes left, Sewanee rallied. A goal by freshman Meredith Sackett cut the lead to two. Less than a minute later, sophomore Relly King added a free position goal.
With Sewanee down one with under a minute to play, King again went to work. The Baltimore, Md., native fired in an unassisted goal with 30 seconds to play.
On the ensuing draw, freshman Brooke Winfield grabbed the loose ball and quick found King racing down the middle of the field. From there, King fired in a shot with 21 seconds left to push Sewanee ahead 11-10.
However, needing a quick goal of its own, Wooster grabbed a draw from Michaela Lawrence. After Abby Szlachta was given a free position attempt, the Wooster attack fired in the equalizer with six seconds left in regulation.
After neither team scored in overtime, Helena Enders scored the game winner off an assist from Jamie Wren-Jarvis with 4:37 left in the second overtime.
Overall, Wooster led in shots, draws, and groundballs. However, behind five saves from Crawford Horan, and eight from Brianna Young, the Tigers kept the match close.
Individually, King scored five goals and added an assist. Sackett also played well with three goals and two assists. Katie Riddle, Anna Comer, and Kit Sommi also scored.
Ellie Hudson-Heck led Wooster with four goals and an assist.
Sewanee returns to action returns to action with a 4:00 p.m. EST match against Kenyon at Georgetown College in Kentucky on March 10th.
