Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. (March 12, 2016) – The Sewanee women's lacrosse team lost its first Southern Athletic Association (SAA) regular season match since March 13, 2014, Saturday, as the Tigers fell at Centre, 15-12, at South Campus Field.
The Tigers are now 3-6 overall and 2-1 in league play. The Colonels improved to 6-1 overall and are also now 2-1 in SAA action. The last SAA lost in the regular season also game at Centre in 2014.
Centre jumped out to a 9-6 lead by halftime. During the opening 30 minutes, Sewanee had goals from Payton Fields, Katie Riddle, Anna Comer, Relly King, and Kit Sommi.
With Centre leading to start the final half, Comer pulled Sewanee to within two, 10-8, with a goal with less than two minutes off the clock.
Minutes later, Meredith Sackett scored twice to tie the match at 10-10 with 23:48 to play.
The Tigers kept rolling when King scored back-to-back goals at the 19:54 and 18:31 marks to push Sewanee ahead 12-11.
Riddle then extended the Tiger advantage to two with a goal with 13:52 left.
Unfortunately, Centre closed the match with four straight goals.
Overall, Centre led in draws by five and grabbed a 13-5 advantage in groundballs.
Individually, King led the attack with four goals and two assists. The Tiger sophomore now has had five matches with at least one goal and one assist.
Sewanee returns to action against Huntingdon on Thursday in Gulf Breeze, Fla.
