Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 27, 2016) – Six goals from sophomore Relly King led a dominate Sewanee offense to an 18-10 win over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Hendrix, Saturday, at Puett Field.
The Tigers improved to 2-2 this season while Hendrix dropped to 2-3. More importantly, Sewanee remained unbeaten in SAA action at 2-0.
The Tigers quickly jumped in front as King netted back-to-back goals to open the game with less than three minutes off the clock.
After winning the next draw, Sewanee extended its advantage to 3-0 when fellow sophomore Kit Sommi scored off a pass from senior Katie Riddle.
Hendrix finally got on the board two minutes later when midfielder Raychl Reger scored an unassisted goal. After Riddle responded with a goal from Sydney Beldock, Jesse Clark fired in another goal for the Warriors off a pass from Morgan Dasch.
Ahead by just two, 4-2, Sewanee's offense answered back in a big way. The Tigers netted the next four goals during a six-minute stretch midway through the first half. During that spurt, Beldock, Riddle, Catherine Crigler, and King all scored.
Eventually, Sewanee led by six, 12-6, at halftime, after Riddle, Meredith Sackett, and Brooke Winfield all scored.
In the final 30 minutes, Sewanee stretched its lead to as much as 11 after early goals from King, Beldock, and Sackett.
Three late Hendrix goals pulled the Warriors to within eight, 18-10, to close the game.
Overall, Sewanee finished with 33 shots and 26 groundballs. After struggling with possession on Thursday, Sewanee and Hendrix both finished with 15 draw controls while the Tigers led in clears, 18-11.
Along with King, Beldock and Riddle both finished with three goals and two assists. On defense, senior Alexis Crittenden finished with three caused turnovers and groundballs while Riddle, Mary Hannah Giddens, and Molly Elkins also forced multiple turnovers.
In goal, Crawford Horan and Brianna Young combined for 11 saves.
Reger and Bridget Umble led Hendrix with three goals each.
Sewanee quickly returns to action with a 1:00 p.m. game against Adrian on Sunday.
