Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 25, 2016) – Four straight goals to start the match by Bates led the visiting Bobcats to an 18-9 win over the Sewanee women's lacrosse team on a cold Thursday evening at Puett Field.
Along with the first four goals, Bates led 9-1 after the first 18 minutes of the match. Despite first-half goals by Alden Woolford, Relly King, and Kit Sommi Sewanee found itself down 12-3 by halftime.
A big reason for the lack of success in the opening 30 minutes the Bates's ability to win draws and keep possession. The Bobcats won 14 out of 16 draws in the first half and fired 22 shots to the Tigers' 12 early attempts.
In the second half, Sewanee settled in. Both teams scored six goals while the Tigers were only outdrawn by three, 8-5.
In the final half, Molly Elkins, King, Anna Comer, Meredith Sackett, and Catherine Crigler all scored.
Bates All-American attacker Moriah Greenstein led Bobcats with three goals and seven assists. In goal, 2015 First-Team All-American keeper Hannah Jeffrey earned the win after she allowed six goals on nine shots.
King led the Tiger attack with three goals and an assist.
Sewanee quickly returns to action with a noon match against SAA rival Hendrix, Saturday.
