Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 21, 2016) – Six goals in the second quarter led the Sewanee men's lacrosse team to a 7-6 win over visiting Guilford on a foggy Sunday afternoon at historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.
The Tigers improved to 2-0 while Guilford dropped its season opener.
After a slow start, Sewanee cut the Quakers' lead to one, 2-1, when Jimmy Parker scored a man-up goal from Pat DiMento.
From there, Sewanee closed the second quarter with three scores from Robbie Berndt and single goals from DiMento and Peter Brown.
Suddenly down four, 6-2, to start the third quarter, Guilford slowly chipped away at its deficit. The Quakers added a man-up goal from Adam Fiore and score from Zachary Berkowitz. Between those two goals by Guilford, DiMento scored from Thomas Lynde for the Tigers.
In the final 15 minutes, Dylan Haupt and Fiore both scored again for Guilford, however, Sewanee keeper Selby Austin made a key fourth quarter save which sealed the win.
Overall, Berndt led Sewanee with three goals on eight shots. DiMento pitched in two goals and one assist while Stewart Roddy led the defense with three caused turnovers.
Sewanee returns to action at No. 12 Roanoke on February 27th. That match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. (EST) in Salem, Va
