Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 18, 2015) – Behind 13 hits and seven RBI, visiting LaGrange earned an 8-3 victory over the Sewanee baseball team, Thursday, at historic Montgomery Field.
In total, the Panthers faced 12 Sewanee pitchers in the Tigers' first mid-week game of 2016. With that, six LaGrange players recorded hits including a 4-for-5 performance from Blake Butcher. In fact, Butcher finished with a homerun, double, three RBI, and a run scored.
Despite LaGrange's offensive output, Sewanee also swung the bats well. The Tigers finished with nine hits, including a 4-for-4 performance from left fielder Derek Hullings. Second basemen Tyler Minkkinen also finished with multiple hits while Jackson Cooper, Drew Mancuso, and Wesley Christian added an RBI each.
Overall, the Panthers scored runs in the first, third, fourth, sixth, and eighth innings.
Sewanee got on the board in the bottom of the second when Mancuso drove in Ryan Poole with a single. Cooper then drove in the Tigers' second run with an RBI SAC fly to centerfield that scored Hullings.
Finally, Christian drove in Mancuso with an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth with one out.
On the mound, Cole Hanks took the loss after giving up two runs on four hits in 1.2 innings. LaGrange starter Toby King earned the win after he limited Sewanee to two runs and four hits in 5.0 innings.
Sewanee returns to action this weekend with a three-game series at Earlham.
