Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 9, 2016) – A long clearing kick by Birmingham-Southern keeper Marvin Castellanos bounced twice and was then kicked in by Patrick Erickson which gave the visiting Panthers a 2-1 overtime win over the Sewanee men's soccer team, Sunday, at Puett Field.
In a match of late goals, BSC scored first in the 41st minute of the first half when Dallas Coyne ripped in a free kick from 30 yards out.
BSC continued to lead by the same score until late in regulation. With less than two minutes to play, Sewanee freshman Zach Birkhead tapped in a loose ball to tie the match.
That setup Erickson's game-winner with less than 30 seconds remaining in the first overtime period.
A back and forth match throughout, BSC led Sewanee in shots, 17-10. The Tigers and Panthers both each had four corners.
Individually, Reid Turner, Birkhead, and Ben Vaeth led the attack with two shots. Erickson, Tylan Jones, and Connor Quiggle paced the Panthers with three attempts each.
Sewanee returns to action with a 2:00 p.m. match at Rhodes, Friday.
