Emory holds on for a 1-0 victory

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 23, 2015) – An early first-half goal proved to be the difference, as Emory held on for a 1-0 victory, Wednesday, over the Sewanee men's soccer team at Putt Field.

The Eagles were able to score an own-goal with less than two minutes off the clock in the first half. Emory used the final 88 minutes to survive a number of Sewanee attacks, including two shots that were saved by defender Matt Sherr late in the second half.

Overall, the Eagles edged Sewanee in shots 9-6. They also held an 8-3 advantage in corners. With that, six Emory corners came in the first half.

Freshman Kyle Johnston led Sewanee in shots with three attempts, including one header that was saved by Sheer off a corner.

Forward Darion Morgan led Emory on offense with two shots.

Sewanee will now open Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play with a 7:30 p.m. (EST) match at Centre, Saturday.
