Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 11, 2015) – After a defeating SAA rival Birmingham-Southern, Saturday, 16-9, the Sewanee women's lacrosse team became the first team in the athletic department since the 1963 football team to finish its regular season undefeated.
Sewanee is now 16-0 overall and a perfect 7-0 in league play. Sewanee also owns the longest winning streak in athletic department history, which now stands at 24 straight matches dating back to the 2014 campaign. The last Sewanee program to go undefeated in the regular season was the 1963 Tiger football team that finished 8-0.
After BSC opened with an early goal, Sewanee answered back. Relly King and Mallory Grimm scored back-to-back goals to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
BSC would tie the game at 2-2 before Grimm netted her second goal off an assist from Sally Anne Greenwood. However, the home Panthers would not go away over the next 10 minutes. BSC took its second and last lead of the game with 17:30 left in the first after Amanda Amerson scored.
Three minutes later, Sewanee's offense responded. A goal by Greenwood sparked an 8-0 run by the Tigers that included four goals to open the second half. During that stretch, Brita Brudvig, Grimm, and King also scored
Later in the final half, Grimm and Katie Riddle would each add two more goals while Tariro Kandemiri scored off a pass from Kit Sommi.
Overall, Grimm was outstanding with a career-high eight goals and two assists. Her eight goals also tied the school record of eight by Molly Arnold (Redlands – 2011). Additionally Riddle, Greenwood, and King all finished with two goals.
In goal, Crawford Horan finished with 10 saves while Alexis Crittenden had a match-high four caused turnovers.
Ashley Shephard led BSC with five goals on nine shots.
