Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 26, 2015) – A strong second-half rally helped the Sewanee women's lacrosse team to a 17-13 win over visiting DePauw on a cold, rainy Thursday evening at Puett Field. The win was also career victory No. 100 for head coach Michele Dombrowski.
Along with Dombrowski's milestone, Sewanee remains perfect with an 11-0 record.
After an early goal by senior Mallory Grimm, DePauw answered back with seven of the next eight goals. The one Tiger score during that stretch was when Sally Anne Greenwood scored off a pass from Grimm.
After Grimm netted her second goal with 13:52 off the clock, DePauw made the score 8-3 just over a minute later.
Grimm would score again as would Katie Riddle and Brita Brudvig. However, Sewanee found itself down three, 9-6, heading into the final 35 minutes of play.
In the second half, Sewanee's attack was outstanding. Taking 18 shots, the Tigers netted 11 goals. That included scores from Greenwood, Grimm, Ellie Murphy, Relly King, Molly Elkins, and Riddle.
In fact, Sewanee outscored DePauw 11-4 in the second half.
Not to be outdone, the Tiger defense was also outstanding in the second half. Sophomore keeper Crawford Horan stopped 14 shots, including five in the second half. The Tigers also created 13 DePauw turnovers after halftime.
Individually, Grimm finished with six goals, one assist, and one draw. Murphy also added four goals and an assist while Riddle and Greenwood both finished with two goals.
Carey Kunz and Emma Flynn led DePauw with three goals.
Sewanee continues its season with a noon match against Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Berry, Sunday.
