Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 22, 2015) – Led by five players with three goals, the Sewanee women's lacrosse team earned a 24-20 win over visiting Greensboro, Sunday, at Puett Field.
The Tigers remained perfect and are now 10-0 this season.
Sewanee led by as much as three goals in the first half as Ellie Murphy, Katie Riddle, Wittney Reed, Mallory Grimm, Sally Anne Greenwood, Relly King, and Molly Elkins all scored.
With the Tigers in front 10-7, Greensboro went on a 3-1 run to close the first half. Sewanee kept its lead around that same margin for most of the early second half.
A goal by Payton Fields with 26:40 to play gave the Tigers a three-goal lead, 14-11.
However, Greensboro kept fighting eventually closing the gap to one, 17-16, after a man-up goal by Amira Khatib.
Any chance of a Pride comeback was short lived as Sewanee responded with four of the next five goals. That included scores by Janie Hannon, Murphy, Grimm, and Riddle.
Sewanee would then pull away the final eight minutes as Greenwood and Fields combined for three additional goals.
Overall Greenwood, Fields, King, Murphy, and Riddle all finished with three goals. Hannon pitched in two and one assist as did Grimm. Wittney Reed added two goals and two assists while Elkins finished with two goals.
On defense, sophomore Crawford Horan finished with 12 saves which included two key stops with less than a minutes remaining.
Sewanee will look to stay unbeaten with a 6:00 p.m. match against DePauw, Thursday.
