Box Score LaGRANGE, Ga. (Sept. 4, 2014) – Sewanee Head Men's Soccer Coach Tony Pacella earned his first career win, as the Tigers topped LaGrange College, 3-2, Thursday.
The victory was the first for the Tigers this season and improved Sewanee's record to 1-2.
Sewanee took the early lead when Reed Dowdy scored off a corner kick from Bobby Zolper late in the first half.
In fact, the Tigers dominated the first 45 minutes by a 10-1 advantage in shots.
Out of the locker, LaGrange did not go quietly. The Panthers scored twice during a six minute stretch to a take a 2-1 lead with just over 30 minutes to play.
However, Sewanee fought back. The Tigers responded when freshman Carter Gray scored his first career goal off a pass from Zolper.
Then with 12 minutes left, senior Ford Emerson scored the game-winner.
Overall, Sewanee's offense had its best match of the season. The Tigers took a season-high 20 shots and also had a 7-3 advantage in corners.
Individually, Emerson took a match-high four shots while Ramsey Seagle added three attempts. Max Hawes, Zolper, Walker Ueland, and Gray finished with two shots each.
After its brief one-match road trip, Sewanee returns to Puett Field for a 5:00 p.m. match against Piedmont, Saturday.
