Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 7, 2014) – Four players in double figures helped Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Berry to a 65-57 comeback win over the Sewanee women's basketball team, Friday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
Despite a 27-23 halftime lead, the Tigers could not hold on as the Vikings outscored Sewanee 42-30 in the second half.
Early in the game, Sewanee maintained a small lead. A three by senior Paige Lowe pushed Sewanee in front by two, 11-9, with 13:26 left in the first half.
The Tigers continued their advantage when freshman Haley Lyerly completed a three-point play with 6:01 remaining.
Berry then responded with a three by Mel McLean, which made the scored 23-21 in favor of the Tigers.
After each team traded layups, Casey Hassett closed the first half with a jumper with four seconds left.
Out of the locker room, the scored stayed close through the first five minutes. After a jumper by Hassett, Berry answered in a big way.
Back-to-back layups by Emma Cook sparked 15-0 run by the Vikings. That in return helped Berry lead 47-36 with 10:34 to play.
Despite a jumper by Jamie Chauvin, Berry would not give up its advantage.
The Vikings used another run to stretch their lead to as much as 13 late in the second half.
Individually, Hassett finished with a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double. Lowe also played well with a game-high 18 points while Chauvin finished with 17.
Cook led Berry with 15 points. Maggie Trimble also finished in double digits with 14 points. Finally, McLean and Chanlir Segarra finished with 13 points each. Segarra also dished out a game-high nine assists.
Sewanee will quickly return to action with a 1:00 p.m. game against Oglethorpe, Sunday.
