Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 23, 2014) – A jumper by Jamie Tate with 27 seconds left helped Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Hendrix to a 58-55 win over the Sewanee women's basketball team, Sunday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.

The Tigers ended their regular season with a 9-16 overall record. Sewanee will take on No. 1 seed and host Rhodes at the SAA Tournament in Memphis, Tenn., on Friday at 3:00 p.m.

Sewanee opened the game with a 10-4 run. Hendrix battled back over the next three possesions before Kayla Sewell pushed the Tiger lead to three, 15-13, halfway through the opening 20 minutes.

Sewanee then scored four straight points from Jamie Chauvin and Casey Hassett. Eventually, the Tigers would lead by nine, 24-15, after a pair of Chauvin free throws.

Hendrix would close the half on a 13-10 run.

Out of the locker room, Sewell made the score 36-28 in favor of Sewanee with a jumper.

The Warriors answered by slowly chipping away at their deficit. Hendrix capped off 15-11 run as Katie Coughran made a free throw with 10:32 to play.

From there, a three by Paige Lowe and two free throws by Haley Lyerly extended the Tigers' advantage.

Unfortunately, Hendrix answered back with a 6-0 run after a pair of three-point shots from Estrella Flores and Taylor Neal.

Down the stretch, the score stayed close. Neither team would lead by more than four points over the final four minutes. With the school 55-54, and the clock running, Tate made her game-winning shot for Hendrix.

Sewanee tried to answer back on its next possession, however Casey Hassett's shot missed. Hendrix then used two free throws by Cait Kriesel-Bigler to seal the win.

In her final home game, Lowe led the Tigers with 12 points. Sewell and Chauvin also played well with 11 points each. Sewell also finished with 16 rebounds, three assists, four steals, and two blocks.

Neal led Hendrix with a game-high 20 points.
