Box Score

ROME, Ga. (Jan. 24, 2014) – A 23-8 run to open the game helped Southern Athletic Association (SAA) member Berry defeat the Sewanee women's basketball team, 66-58, Friday evening inside the Cage Center.

Despite the early setback, the Tigers did respond with a scoring spurt of their own. Over the final 10 minutes of the first half, Sewanee outscored the Vikings 22-17.

That rally helped Sewanee make 41.1 percent of its attempts in the opening 20 minutes.

A jumper by Kayla Sewell kept the margin at 10 points, 42-32, with 17:22 minutes left.

Unfortunately, a jump shot by Chanlir Segarra and layups by Emma Cook and Valerie McClure pushed the Viking lead to 16, 48-32, over the next four minutes.

Later in the game, four points each from Jamie Chauvin and Casey Hassett cut the Tiger deficit to 12, 59-47, with 7:10 to play.

Sewanee would eventually get even closer when Sewell made a pair of free throws with 2:37 remaining.

However, free throws by Segarra and Megan Walsh helped seal the victory for Berry.

Overall, Sewanee made 41.1 percent of its attempts. In fact, that field goal percentage was the third highest shooting percentage Sewanee has had this season.

The Tigers also made 37.7 percent of their three-point field goals.

Individually, Chauvin led Sewanee with 13 points. She was joined in double figures by Lowe (12 points), Savannah Rose (10 points) and Hassett (12 points).

Mel McLean, who finished with a game-high 21 points, led Berry. Segarra also pitched in 17 points and seven rebounds.

The Tigers will look to earn their first conference win of the season with a 6:00 p.m. (EST) contest at Oglethorpe, Saturday.
