Sewanee ends winning streak with loss at unbeaten Denison

Box Score

GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 6, 2013) – A quick start helped regionally ranked and unbeaten Denison earn a 15-8 win over the Sewanee women's lacrosse team Saturday at Piper Stadium.

The loss drops the Tigers to 9-5 overall and ended Sewanee's five-game winning streak.

Denison jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Sewanee finally broke through as Sally Anne Greenwood netted a goal with 14:50 left to play in the first half.

After three more goals by Denison, Olivia Vietor converted a free position attempt with 6:25 left to cut the score to 7-2.

Sewanee would go on and add two more goals by Vietor to end the first half, which put the score at 9-4 at the break.

In the second half Greenwood and Ellie Murphy would each score two goals, however Denison would unfortunately fire in six shots.

Despite the loss, the Tigers did manage to have more draw controls and free position attempts.

Individually, defender Alexis Crittenden held Denison's leading scorer Molly Chapman to just one shot which was a free position attempt.

Sewanee will quickly return to action when the Tigers close their two-match non-conference road trip with a 11:00 a.m. EST match at Wooster, Sunday.
