Box Score JACKSON, Miss. (Feb. 22, 2013) – Despite an early first-half lead, the Sewanee women's basketball team dropped a 64-33 contest at No. 1 seed and host Millsaps during quarterfinal action of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Women's Basketball Tournament.
With the loss, Sewanee ended its season with a 6-19 overall record. Additionally, Friday marked the final game for lone senior Dee Bradford.
As the game got underway, Sewanee quickly jumped out front. The Tigers opened with a 10-3 run after Kayla Sewell, Jamie Chauvin, Paige Lowe, and Jamie Samociuk all made field goals.
After a mini spurt by the Majors, Chauvin gave Sewanee its final lead, 12-11, when her layup went through the net with 13:50 left.
For the remainder of half, Millsaps responded. The Majors used a 25-5 run to take a 36-17 halftime lead.
In the second half the Majors slowed any chance of a comeback, after the Majors made 40 percent of their attempts.
Individually, Haley McDonough, along with Sewell, led Sewanee with six points each. Additionally, that total tied a career-high for McDonough.
Shante Morton, Velvet Johnson, and Mihah Brooks led Millsaps with nine points apiece.
