Tigers earn first win at Greensboro, 16-8

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Feb. 16, 2013) – The Sewanee women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the 2013 season with a 16-8 victory over host Greensboro, Sunday.

After holding a close 7-6 lead at halftime, the Tigers broke the game open in the second half.

Senior Molly Arnold started the run with a goal off an assist by Olivia Vietor. The Tigers then built their lead to five, 11-6, when Ellie Murphy, Wittney Reed, and Vietor all scored over the next five minutes.

After Greensboro added a pair of goals, Mallory Grimm found the back of the net with a shot with just under 18 minutes left.

Sewanee would go on and add four more goals off of shots from Murphy, Lillie Belle Viebranz, Brita Brudvig, and Arnold.

Defensively, freshman keeper Sammy Strasburger finished with seven saves in 60 minutes of action.

The Tigers will continue their three-game road trip with an 11:00 a.m., contest at Millsaps, Saturday.
