Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 10, 2013) – A number of long scoring runs lifted Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Birmingham-Southern past the Sewanee women's basketball team, 66-32, Sunday inside Juhan Gymnasium.
After a quick start by the Tigers, the Panthers quickly responded. BSC would lead 15-5 after Alex Adams capped off a 12-2 Panther run.
Despite its brief setback, Sewanee responded with an 8-2 run of its own. During that stretch, sophomore guard Jamie Samociuk scored six straight points in less than two minutes.
Unfortunately, that was when the tide turned. After a layup by Adams, BSC closed the half on a 16-6 run.
In the second half, things did not improve much for Sewanee. BSC opened on an 8-3 run to take a 19-point lead, 42-23, with 16:15 left.
Over the final minutes, the Panthers continued to play well. BSC capped off a 24-6 spurt when Alexis Adams hit a jumper with 3:16 to play.
Individually, sophomore forward Kayla Sewell led Sewanee with eight points and nine rebounds.
Additionally, senior Dee Bradford closed out her career inside Juhan Gymnasium with a four-point, five-rebound effort.
Forward Elizabeth Bromirski led BSC with a game-high 12 points. Guard Caroline King and Adams also had double figures with 10 points.
The Tigers will continue play with a 6:00 p.m., contest at Welch College, Tuesday.
