Box Score ROME, Ga. (Feb. 1, 2013) – For more than 34 minutes the Sewanee women's basketball team stayed right with Southern Athletic Association (SAA) member Berry. However, over the final six minutes, the Lady Vikings pulled away for a 70-56 victory Friday inside the Cage Center.
Out of the gate the Tigers came out strong. Sewanee quickly led 7-2 after Kayla Sewell, Jamie Samociuk, and Dee Bradford all made shots before the 17:16 mark.
After a brief run by Berry, Sewanee responded with a 6-3 run to retake the lead, 25-24, with 2:54 to go.
Unfortunately, the Lady Vikings finished the half on a 5-0 run to take a 29-25 lead at the break.
In the second half things stayed close. Berry would lead by three, 33-30, before a Jamie Chauvin tied the score with a three-pointer with 17:23 left.
From there neither team would lead by more than four points, until the 5:07 mark. During that stretch Sewanee would take a 44-41 advantage with 13:55 to go. However, Berry stormed back on a 6-2 run.
The Lady Vikings continued their hot-play over the final minutes. Berry finished the game on 19-4 run after the Lady Vikings made 70 percent (7-of-10) of their attempts from the 5:32 mark.
Overall, Sewanee had one its best offensive games of the season. The Tigers made 36.7 percent of their shots, which was their best shooting percentage since January 4th. Additionally, Sewanee had its fourth best turnover margin this year.
Individually, Sewell led the Tigers with 13 points and six rebounds. Additionally, Lowe, along with Chauvin, also finished in double figures with 11 points each.
Guard Chanlir Segarra led Berry with a game-high 24 points on 6-of-11 shooting.
The Tigers will quickly return to action with a 6:00 p.m., (EST) contest at Oglethorpe, Saturday.
