Box Score DECATUR, Ga. (Nov. 26, 2013) – The Sewanee women's basketball team outscored host Agnes Scott by 11 points in the second half en route to a 46-35 win Tuesday night.
Tied 14-14 at halftime, Sewanee limited Agnes Scott to a 22.6 field goal percentage in the second half. That, along with 10 turnovers by Agnes Scott, helped the Tigers take command.
Sewanee started the second half on a 10-2 run. During that stretch, freshman Haley Lyerly, sophomore Casey Hassett and junior Kayla Sewell all scored.
Up by nine, midway through the half, sophomore Jamie Chauvin pushed the lead to 11, 31-20, with 9:14 left.
From there, a three by Paige Lowe and a layup by Hassett kept the lead in double digits with 4:49 to play.
Agnes Scott would pull to within 15, 41-26, with a layup by Care Bacon at the 2:55 mark. However, any comeback attempt by Agnes Scott was short lived. Sewanee made 3-out-5 free throws to close the game.
Overall, Sewanee made 36 percent of its attempts. The Tigers also outscored Agnes Scott in the paint and off of second chance points.
Individually, Hassett led Sewanee with a game-high 15 points and nine rebounds. Lowe also played well with 11 points and two assists.
Guard Courtney Kelson led Agnes Scott with 14 points. Sewanee held all other Agnes Scott players under 10 points.
The Tigers will look to extend their three-game winning streak with a 6:00 p.m. contest against Emory, Tuesday inside Juhan Gymnasium.
