Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Nov. 23, 2013) – After a strong 17-0 run to start the game, the Sewanee women's basketball team breezed to a 62-38 win over visiting Wesleyan College, Saturday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
The Tigers (3-2) quickly built their lead over the first eight minutes. During that stretch, Sewanee held Wesleyan scoreless while Kayla Sewell, Jamie Chauvin, and Casey Hassett all scored for the Tigers.
Sewanee kept rolling when Savannah Rose hit a jumper and Emily Culbertson netted a three, which pushed the lead to 17, 22-5, with 10:19 left in the half.
Wesleyan finally found its offense midway through the half. The Wolves used a 15-5 run over the next eight minutes to pull within seven, 27-20.
However, the Tigers would close the half on an 8-2 run which gave Sewanee a 35-22 lead at the break.
Out of the locker room, Sewanee continued to pull away. After limiting Wesleyan to a 29.2 field goal percentage, the Tigers outscored the Wolves by 11, 27-16, in the second half.
Overall, Sewanee made 38.7 percent of its attempts, which included a season-high 39.1 percent from outside the three-point line.
Individually, Chauvin led all scorers with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Senior Paige Lowe also finished in double figures with 10 points.
On the glass, Sewanee outrebounded Wesleyan 46-31. That total included a game-high 12 rebounds by Hassett, nine by Sewell, and eight by Chauvin.
With victories in its last two contests, Sewanee will look to extend its winning streak at Agnes Scott, Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Decatur, Ga.
