Box Score LOOKOUT, MT., Ga. (Nov. 20, 2013) – A quick start by regional-rival Covenant helped the Scots to a 61-40 victory over the Sewanee women's basketball team, Wednesday, inside the Barnes Physical Education Center.
Covenant (2-1) jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead over the first six minutes of play. Sewanee (1-2) finally got on the board, when Jamie Chauvin hit a layup at the 13:03 mark.
The Tigers eventually cut their deficit to four, 13-9, when freshman Haley Lyerly scored off a fast break opportunity.
A small run by Covenant helped the Scots lead by eight, 23-15 at halftime.
In the second half, Sewanee would get to within seven, 25-18, as senior Paige Lowe connected on a three with 18:08 to play.
Unfortunately, Covenant would slowly pull away after a 22-11 run helped the Scots extend their lead over the next 10 minutes.
The Tigers were undone by 28 turnovers and a 26.4 field goal percentage. With that, Covenant scored 31 points off of Sewanee's miscues. The Scots also made 41.5 percent of their attempts while outscoring the Tigers by 10, 22-12, in the paint.
Individually, freshman Savannah Rose led Sewanee with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Additionally, junior Kayla Sewell grabbed nine rebounds while Casey Hassett pulled down eight. Hassett also finished with three blocks and three assists.
Alexis Storteboom led all Covenant players with a game-high 14 points and seven rebounds. Aleigha Williams also finished in double figures with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
Sewanee returns to action with its first home contest inside Juhan Gymnasium, Friday. The Tigers welcome Warren Wilson to the Domain for a 6:00 p.m., tip-off.
